African Storybook Project highlight

The African Storybook project has been featured on UBC News. Check out the article, “On the tip of the mother tongue” story and watch some videos about the project.  Bonny Norton, the project’s research advisor, is working with former LLED Graduate Student Sam Andema and many others to bring storytelling and technology into the classroom to promote multilingual literacy through African folklore and culture.

LLED Literacy Dissertation Writing Scholarships now accepting applications

The Department of Language and Literacy Education invites applications from current doctoral students for two, one-time, LLED Literacy Dissertation Writing Scholarships.

UBC-Ritsumeikan Academic Exchange Programs 12-Month-Lecturer position

The Department of Language and Literacy Education, Faculty of Education, UBC, invites applications for a one-year full-time Lecturer position without review (non-tenure track). This 12-Month-Lecturer position will be expected to teach courses offered through the UBC-Ritsumeikan Programs: the UBC-Ritsumeikan Academic Exchange Program and the UBC-Ritsumeikan Global Citizenship Program. The position is expected to commence at the beginning of August 2014.

Teaching English Language Learners Adjunct Teaching Professor

The Department of Language and Literacy Education and the Teacher Education Office at UBC invite applications from teacher educators with expertise and experience in teaching English Language Learners for a twelve-month part-time (80%) seconded position commencing in September 2014 with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years. The successful candidate will work with teacher candidates in the Teaching English Language Learners/Problem Based Learning (TELL/PBL) cohort in various lower mainland school districts. Grad Student Research Conference in Children’s Literature, “I Will Be Myself”: Identity in Children’s Literature, Media and Culture – Registration now open

LLED is pleased to support the 2014 UBC Graduate Student Research Conference in Children’s Literature, “I Will Be Myself”: Identity in Children’s Literature, Media and Culture. Registration for the conference is now open.

The conference will take place on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the IrvingK. Barber Learning Centre, Vancouver campus, University of British Columbia. Graduate students from across North America will present their research in creative writing, library and information studies, English, Education, and other disciplines. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Phillip Serrato, San DiegoStateUniversity, whose research is in gender, sexuality and identity in children’s and adolescent literature.

12-month Seconded Teacher positions (P/T)

The Teacher Education Office and the Department of Language and Literacy Education invite applications from teacher educators for a twelve-month, part-time (60 to 80%) seconded teacher position commencing in September 2014 with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years. Expertise in French as a Second Language Education (Core, Immersion, Intensive) is required. One position is available at the elementary level and another at the secondary level. Practica will take place in various lower mainland school districts.
