LLED 456A/002 – Identifying and Supporting Learners with Literacy Difficulties

In this course, you will learn to use a number of formal and informal instruments, processes and tools  for assessing literacy difficulties and to interpret the results of the assessment in recommending learning/instructional strategies. Typically, students work in pairs with a child, adolescent, or adult in conducting and writing up a case study which constitutes the major assignment for the course.

LLED 433/221 – Drama in Education: Primary/Elementary Classrooms

This course will prepare participants to facilitate learning using drama strategies with students ages 5 – 12. In class, participants will experience and analyze a variety of dracific learning/teaching objectives. Through reflective practice, participants are supported to develop their creative and critical thinking and develop confidence in teaching skills that use story, role-play, improvisation, theatre-making, metaphor, and embodied practice. About the instructor: Janice Valdez is a doctoral fellow in LLED receiving supervision from Dr. George Belliveau. Janice brings over 18 years of experience designing and facilitating drama-based sessions for children of diverse backgrounds and abilities, as well as adults in various settings including hospitals, universities and private individual sessions. Janice has studied with leaders Juliana Saxton in drama education, and Robert Landy in drama therapy at New York University. Janice’s research interests relate to teacher education, medical education, embodied pedagogy, arts-based and performed research.
